Sans Souci

Traveling on holiday--
"on holiday,"
a very British thing to say--
with Meredith and Meredith
to "Sans Souci;"
a place without worries
where kings could go
to escape the masses.
No one goes there now
except the masses.
Standing before statues,
lifting near-frozen faces
and bananas to mock the grapes
dripping from a granite hand.
Bundled up warm
against the chill.
It snowed in April.
We stopped to take a picture:
sans souci--
Meredith, Meredith, Frederick the Second,
and me.
